When Your Friend Uses Your Credit Card?
Gabriel-Stafford, 2007-07-26 07:18:37
I allowed my friend to use my credit card to purchase something online today. After that transaction, I reported my card as lost cos I'm afraid she'll misuse it later. She has done it in the past to another person. The credit card officer says should there be future attempts later, they will notify the police. Should she try to use it again w/o informing me and she gets arrested, does it make me a traitor for not inforrming her about this or it just serves her right?

- jerry, did you physically hand the card to your friend and after the transaction did they hand it back to you?
- or did you just give them the numbers, expiration date & security code on the back of the card (either over the phone or in person)?
- if you physically handed them the card, and because you knew of (and authorized) the first transaction don't try to dispute it because you could be facing a fraud conviction yourself then.
- so don't dispute the first transaction.
- if your friend doesn't pay you back then you can take them to small claims court to recoup your money.
- or did they pay you cash already?
- if you gave them the number orally & they wrote it down to input it into an online retailer website, then that transaction is also authorized and not to be disputed.
- now, however, any subsequent transactions with that number should not occur since you reported the card as lost.
- the burden of proof will come out that you didn't authorize her to make any further transactions with that card and to protect yourself from any legal liability cancelled the card when you reported it as lost.
- it's a hard lesson, but if she chooses to (try to) use the credit card again, she will most likely get arrested -- yes, it serves her right (some friend huh?)!!!

- well if you dont trust someone , dont let them use the card.
- you could have easliy typed in the numbers yourself , to let the purchase go thru, and her not being able to see the numbers.
- secondly , you cant report someone on what you think they will do, you have to wait until they do it.
- i think that is shady on your part, that you said you would let them use the card and right behind thier back, report it stolen.,.....
- thats like the christian minisrty guy, paid a prostitute with checks , then reported them stolen...
- how dumb.
- in the future....

- it does serve her right if she gets caught because u only authorized 1 transaction and if she does more than 1 then shes stealing from u and deserves everything she gets.
- u shouldnt feel like a traitor..she should feel like a shady little theif if that happens!!
- but knowing she has done something like that before..it wasnt a smart odea on ur part to let her use ur credit card.
- why didnt she pay for it herself?
- because if she doesnt pay u back for whatever she buys..u are liable free pictures of the wwe diva strip poker game.
- thats why u arent supposed to let anyone borrow ur credit cards no matter who they are.
- if she decides to say F--- you and not pay u back then ur pretty much screwed unless u take her to court where she can claim that u were doing her a favor and u never asked to be repaid etc etc..see where im goin with this?

You consented to letting her use the card, number one, which means that you agree to be responsible for the purchases. Number two, reporting the card as lost, when it's really user irresponsibility is unethical, dishonest, and may or may not be fraudulent. If there are "unauthorized" charges on YOUR card that are written off, it means that MY interest rates, as well as the interest rates of every other credit card customer will go up. Way to be honest and responsible.
