Settle My Poker Argument. Can The Big Blind Fold In An Unraised Pot?
Carrol-Finlay, 2007-06-15 06:25:47
I play a hell of a lot of poker. But have got into an argument that i cant back up. During a recent live tournament, a player in the big blind folded even though the no one at the table had raised. One of the well known players at the table insisted that the Big Blinds cards are protected and he CANNOT fold. I believe this to be rubbish, but cant find it written down to prove it! I know if the player is away from the table and no one raises, it counts as a check, but surely if someone folds their cards they may??

- you can fold, but you're wasting your money.
- it just makes sense to play and see the flop for free.
- then you can fold after the flop.

Now theoretically you should not be allowed to fold. That is because you have already opted to call before seeing your cards. That is why it is called a blind free online texas hold em poker game no download. You are CALLING blind. Some people say that they are forced to check or ruled a check. That is not true for the rule free plans on building a wooden fold up poker table. Usually if someone tries folding, they just forget that they are in the blind and the dealer or director will advise the person they are in the blind and see the free flop. - yes, he can, and it happened to me once.
- i was in a small s'n'g at a local casino, and was in the bb.
- everyone folded to the small blind, who announced "i'm in" as he moved chips forward.
- i misheard him, and thought he had said, "i'm all in".
- i had an absolute rag hand, was sitting on a pretty good chip stack, and didn't want to play a big pot with nothing.
- so i folded and tossed my cards into the muck.
- everybody looked at me like i was on crack, which i suppose was the correct assesment.
- the dealer told me i could have checked, and seemed surprised when i pointed out that the sb was all in.
- which of course he wasn't.
- but i had mucked my hand, and that was that.
- after the tournament (i finished 2nd) i asked the dealer what would have happened if i hadn't mucked my cards, and he said that, at that casino, a verbal assertation of intent is considered binding.
- in an unraised pot the bb has the option to check or raise, but he must announce what he intends to do.
- if he announces that he folds it is binding.
- i've talked to dealers at different casinos, and there's no hard and fast rule about it because it happens so rarely.
- some casinos will cut you some slack, especially if you're at a low limit table.
- some casinos are tight about it.
- i played at one casino in ac where any chips in front of your cards were considered in play, and one poor guy went all in on his first hand because he pulled his hole cards too far back to look at them!
- the rule varies by location, and a lot of online card rooms don't even give you the option to fold if you're in the bb in an unraised pot.
- be careful though, i knew a dealer in az that told me about a regular who would fold the bb to make people think he was inexperienced and a fish.
- he'd sit at a table where nobody knew him, fold the bb, and suddenly people couldn't wait to raise him with nothing.
- so in that case, being able to fold in that situation helped him out.
